An abbey with almost 900 years of history is up for sale in France for around two million euros. Notre-Dame de Langonnet in Brittany was founded in 1136. The estate includes around 5,380 square meters of buildings, set within nearly 58 hectares of woodland, meadows and agricultural land. For centuries, Cistercian monks prayed here and shaped the area around the monastery. After the horrors of the French Revolution, the Spiritans - the congregation whose later superior general was Monsignor Marcel Lefebvre - made Langonnet their home in the 19th century. They remained for nearly 170 years. Generations of missionaries passed through the abbey before leaving for Africa and other parts of the world. Now that chapter is coming to an end. A Christian of unknown denomination has become the patron of a new Catholic parish in Texas. Bishop Michael Olson of Fort Worth has announced the creation of a parish in Arlington named after Matthew Ayariga, a Ghanaian killed by ISIS in Libya in 2015. Ayariga was abducted alongside 20 Egyptian Coptic Christians. On February 15, 2015, ISIS executed all 21 men on a Libyan beach. According to accounts of the event, when Ayariga was asked about his faith, he replied, “Their God is my God.” The Coptic Orthodox group canonized all 21 victims shortly after their deaths. In 2023, Francis announced that the 21 martyrs would also be added to the Roman Martyrology.
