Historic Cathedral, Now a Parish Church, Abused for Political Dinner: On June 12 and 13, a 'Heavenly Dinner' was held in St. Andrä’s former cathedral, the historic episcopal church of the now-defunct Diocese of Lavant in Austria. Today, the Cathedral serves as a parish church. Several local restaurateurs jointly prepared the dinner, while local politicians and other guests dined inside the church. Before the meal, a table prayer was recited. As host, Dean Fr. Gerfried Sitar welcomed the guests. During the evening, the clergyman was also awarded the Gold Plaque of the City of St. Andrä.

A former teacher and his homosexual partner, a financial sales manager, have been convicted at Preston Crown Court, Lancashire, of murdering and sexually abusing a toddler they were in the process of adopting. Jamie Varley, 37, was found guilty of murder, two counts of assault by penetration, multiple counts of child cruelty, grievous bodily harm, and offences involving indecent images. John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, was convicted of causing or allowing the death of a child, child cruelty, and sexual assault. His mother had a long criminal record, including a murder conviction in 1998. Born in Sassuolo, in the province of Modena, Ruini was ordained a priest in 1954. In 1991, Pope St. John Paul II appointed him to lead the Italian Bishops' Conference, named him Vicar General of Rome, and created him a cardinal.
