On July 11, the Diocese of Raleigh hosted its first multicultural celebration honoring St. Kateri Tekakwitha - the first North American Indigenous saint - at Holy Cross Church. The gathering included discussions, music, and indigenous dances. Richard Duran, a member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe from Arizona, led a smudging ceremony, which the diocese described as sharing cleansing smoke “as an act of prayer and spiritual connection.” Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama was present and drew laughter when he said he would dance with his heart, not his body, because dancing to music can frustrate him. Smudging has nothing to do with St. Kateri. She left her indigenous community and moved to the Christian Mohawk community at Kahnawake, where she could freely live her Catholic faith.

A Treasure Chest of Inspiration Three years ago, The Cenacle Press at Silverstream Priory, republished an incredible book from 1942 titled “Just For Today.” It is a compilation of 365 daily quotations from Saint Therese, matched with excerpts from The Imitation of Christ (which she had thoroughly memorized as a young girl.) Auxiliary Bishop Ricardo Seirutti, 70, of Córdoba, Argentina, has been punished by the Church following a canonical judicial process concerning complaints from two adults over conduct officially described as “improper to his episcopal ministry.” Monsignor Seirutti also served as vicar general of the Archdiocese of Córdoba. Pope Francis appointed him auxiliary bishop in 2015. In 2018, he participated as a voting Synod Father in the Synod of Bishops on Young People. He represented the Argentine episcopate. According to the Archdiocese of Córdoba, complaints from two adults led the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith to order a canonical judicial process before the Interdiocesan Tribunal of Buenos Aires. The Vatican today released details of Leo XIV’s meeting with 248 bishops marking ten years of 'Amoris Laetitia' (October 7–14). It will be conducted in a “synodal style.” Participants will work in 16 small groups before discussing their results in plenary. They will use the Synod on Synodality’s “Conversation in the Spirit”: three rounds consisting of sharing personal experience, “resonating” with what others have said, and jointly identifying what has emerged.
